Annual Christmas Offering (2014)

December 2014

Dear Friends,
As children transition into adulthood their needs change. One of the things that change is their source of advice and influence.  Children look to their parents for love, support, and advice.  As children approach 11 and 12 years old they start to look for other sources of love, support and advice.  This is why teachers and coaches are so important!  This year, our Annual Christmas Offering is going 100% toward hiring a youth leader for the teens of the Hub.  Last year we raised $12,000 for our children and children’s Sunday program.  This year we need to take the next step and raise $12,000 to hire a leader who will offer love, support, and advice in the context of Christian discipleship.  Imagine what could happen in our families, church, school, and town if the Hub had a staff person dedicated to discipling our teens.  Let’s create the future together!
Please give to our Annual Christmas Offering so we can hire a youth leader.
Thanks,
Aaron

Is someone graduated, graduating or moving up a grade? Then why aren’t we celebrating like right now? Because we’re celebrating on June 8!

But you need to tell us who we’re celebrating. If your child is moving up a grade or graduating, text Lisa at 818-419-6284; if your adult is graduating, text Aaron at 818-419-6284; and if you have any commencement pictures or video to share for that Sunday, e-mail Aaron.

Community Meeting This Saturday, 10 a.m. to Noon: How Do We Share ‘Words’ in Worship?

How Do We Share ‘Words’ in Worship?

The Hub is a Vineyard church, which means that we believe that God the Holy Spirit speaks to us today–with images, with inclinations, with words. So if God gives us a ‘word’ to share during our worship, what do we do? Do we speak it out, or do we wait? Is there a way for us to discern?

This is the conversation we want to have as a community this Saturday, May 31, at the Hub, and if it’s a conversation you want to be a part of, we really want you to join us at 10 a.m.

Spring 2014 Small Groups

Deuteronomy 4x6 text full

Small-group signups started Sunday and will continue through Easter Sunday, so be sure to check your schedules and check out what evening (or morning) you can commit to for the next 10 weeks. In order to help facilitate signups, we’re opening up electronic form HERE.

Spring small groups run for the 10 weeks from April 21 through July 4. Each week we’re looking at a passage from Deuteronomy before the sermon to see how Gød designs for us to live together in ‘the land.’ What’s ‘the land’ for us? Los Angeles? The Hub? Our office? Our family? That’s part of the conversation we want you to be a part of. Join us!

  • Mondays, 6:30–8:30 p.m., at the Hub
  • Mondays, 6–8 p.m., in Tujunga (couples mostly/adults only)
  • Tuesdays, 6–8 p.m., at the Hub
  • Wednesdays, 6–8:30 p.m., at the Hub
  • Fridays, 9:30–11:30 a.m., at the Hub (women’s group)

If you have any questions about any of these groups, please contact Brian.

If you’re like Brian and never know what to bring, here’s some good fortune: we have it all listed out; just put your name down next to the item. Sign up at the Hub when you’re next by, or e-mail Brian and let him know what he can put you down for. We still have lots of spots open for entrees, salads, sides, deserts and beverages. And by all means, invite a friend!

Sunday Hikes with Ranger Krash

Starting this month, Krash will lead local a hike each last Sunday of the month after worship. Jan. 26, plan to grab a bite for lunch and meet back at the church around noon. Details to follow. Need some inspiration to brave the California low-60s? Recall the famed lines of Joyce Kilmer:

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree hose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth’s flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

Take a hike, see a tree. That’s Ranger Krash’s guarantee.

On the ‘Eve’ of Eve Eve

December 23, 6:30-8 p.m.
To gather on the ‘eve’ of Christmas Eve Eve is something we always seek to achieve, when to the warmth of carols and cookies we cleave.

Our community will tell the story of the Jesse Tree, where a series of home-crafted images from Scripture will interweave. And be sure to bring cookies—fresh-baked, we’ll believe, unless you neglect to take them out of the sleeve.

Below is Aaron explaining this year’s Eve Eve. Please watch so that, in light of my rhyming, you do not misconceive.

Don’t miss it, or you’ll grieve the cookies you did not receive! Please note: No childcare will be available, and if your kid eats all of the cookies, we’ll ask you to leave.
